Democracy, govt inaction cannot work together

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chief Nawaz Sharif has said that democracy and government’s inaction could not go side by side.

He said this while presiding over the party’s provincial organising committee meeting held in Lahore to brief the PML-N chief on the Local Governments Act draft, which has been prepared to be presented for legislation in the Punjab Assembly.

On the occasion, Nawaz Sharif said parliament should be made supreme and national matters should be resolved through consultation.

Nawaz Sharif said that the murderers of Nawab Akbar Bugti should be held accountable.

He said that those people who got loan waivers and violated the constitution should also be held accountable.

Regarding the local government system, the PML-N chief was informed that feedbacks had been taken from district and division level representatives of the government regarding the system – to ensure that all stakeholders were on board – and necessary amendments were made in the act before election.

Intra-party elections, tentatively scheduled for March, and its preparations were also discussed in the meeting.
